Walther P22 Pistol Review
I have had my Walther P22 for over a year now. After having used it many times, I decided it was time to do a review.
THE GOOD
The first reason I purchased the Walther P22 was because of how it fit my hand. I realize every person has a different hand. If you pick up this gun and it doesn’t feel good in your hand–then it isn’t the right gun for you. But for me, the fit was perfect.
The second reason I purchased this gun was because of the safety mechanisms that are part of the gun. Gun safety cannot be overemphasized. Even experts can make mistakes if they get lazy about gun safety–and a mistake with a gun can be fatal. Relying on your gun or gun mechanisms to keep you safe is just plain dumb. But a gun mechanism can be an extra layer of protection in case of mental error. I like the Walther P22 because of the magazine disconnect. When you remove the magazine, it is theoretically impossible to fire the gun. This is important. This is a bonus layer of safety that I like.
The third thing I like about this gun is how easy it is to maintain and clean. I realize how important it is to keep your gun clean. I don’t actually love the process of cleaning guns. So I really like guns that are basic to take apart and simple to maintain. This is one of them. After using my Walther P22, it only takes me a few minutes–around 15–to completely disassemble the gun, clean all the parts, and then put it back together again.
Over the past year I have shot several thousand rounds through my gun. I have not had any jams or misfires. I have only used CCI Mini Mags so far. As I said, I have not had any jams or misfires. I think over the next year, I may start to try a few rounds of Federal bulk. I have heard they do okay in P22′s–I’ll let you know.
THE BAD
The only bad thing I have found with the P22 is the sights. The standard sights are pretty bad. They are okay for plinking–but for target shooting are not great. I am starting to look around for some better sights–I’ll definitely let you know which I go with and how they work out.
MY RECOMMENDATION:
If you are looking for a great, reliable 22 pistol I don’t think you can go wrong with the Walther P22. This is an incredibly dependable and reliable pistol and the quality is there. It is tons of fun to shoot. The price is right. Get it.
